Hardy Roses - Rugosa Roses
Rugosa Roses and their hybrids

Updated Febuary 2010

  Henry Hudson (Rugosa Rose)
"Henry Hudson"

Originating on the sand dunes along the coast of Northern Japan and Siberia, the Rugosa roses are very cold hardy. Most of their hybrids have retained a good tolerance of cold temperatures as well. Almost all are very thorny and have deeply veined healthy leaves. Nearly all Rugosas are well scented, are Repeats flowering and bear edible hips in fall. (See the "Other" column and the Key below) Rugosas are the most disease resistant of all the roses, shade tolerant and never need to be treated for blackspot. They make excellent hedges and companion plants for vegetable gardens. (zones 2 to 4 - a few less hardy). Easiest roses to grow!

Our Favourites: Blanc Double de Coubert, Frau Dagmar Hastrup, Kaitlyn Ainsley, Purple Pavement and Scabrosa

"Dear Old Rose Nurseryl,

Just had to drop a line to say how impressed we were with our order of roses. They travelled beautifully and are far superior to roses I have purchased from other centres."
