"Fantin
Latour"
|
|
Often
called the "Cabbage Rose," the original Centifolia rose dates
from the end of the 16th century and resulted as a chance cross between
Autumn Damask and an Alba. Forming lax, somewhat floppy bushes with large
very fragrant flowers, Centifolias tend to bow their heads, bending over
to offer their wonderful fragrance to passers-by. Peter Beales, a well-known
rose grower in England, admonished his gardener for tying them up quite
unnaturally to a stake, and cut the ties as he walked through his rose
garden. (Hardy to zone 4.)
Our
Favourites: Chapeau De Napoleon, Fantin Latour, the Old
